An Amble for All Saints Hollybush and a Meander for Macmillan

Why?

Part pilgrimage, part visiting the ancestors but also a major physical challenge for me! I’ve wanted to do a long distance walk for some time.  This year is the 150th anniversary of the little Church on the Common and in July Mike will have a bit more time on his hands, so I had the crazy idea to walk 150 miles.

In doing so, I hope to raise funds for two causes close to my heart:

  • to raise money to put towards installing toilet facilities at All Saints, so that the next 150 years will be even better than the last, and
  • because too many brilliant family members and friends have been affected by cancer, and Macmillan do a brilliant job of supporting not only cancer patients, but their friends and families as well.

When?

Over the first three weeks in July, I’ll walk around 10 miles each weekday.

Where?

It’s basically a big anti-clockwise loop, starting and finishing at All Saints.  I’ll take in the full length of the Malvern Hills and passing through Bromyard, Leominster, Kington, Hay-on-Wye, Monmouth and Ross-on-Wye.  I’ll be stopping off at All Saints Monkland where my paternal grandparents are buried and Capel-y-ffin where my great uncle Clarence is buried. And during part of the final week I’ll be walking along the Wye Valley close to Whitchurch where I got married and Walford where my parents live.
